October 3 (Thursday): field trip to lower Domingo Baca Canyon, featuring riparian habitat on the western base of the Sandia Mountains. This is a fairly easy hike of under 2 miles each way, through rolling foothills into what feels like an ancient woodland. We don’t expect visible water in this season, but its intermittent presence has created a unique habitat and plant diversity. Access is via the Elena Gallegos picnic area.
