Timber Ridge at 10,000-feet at the head of Water Canyon in the mountains south of Socorro yielded 40 species of flowers last time, so let’s try it again! The ridge hike leads through a meadow with views in all directions and into a ponderosa forest. We hope to see lots of species not often seen in the Sandias, including Toadflax Penstemon, San Mateo Penstemon (NM RARE), Scouler’s Catchfly, and Rusby’s Primrose. Moderately strenuous, high-elevation hike on uneven trail. Bring rain gear, hat, sunscreen, lunch. Meet 8:00 a.m., at Saver’s parking lot on Carlisle on NE side of Carlisle/Menaul intersection. Park behind Mattress Firm in SW corner of lot.
