Wednesday, June 14, at 6 AND 7 p.m. – Meeting: “Coastal Deserts of Western South America: Fog Makes for Something Entirely Different” presented by Michael O. Dillon

Dr. Dillon is currently Curator Emeritus and previously was Curator of Flowering Plants at the Field Museum of Natural History for 30 years until his retirement in 2008. Over those three decades he became one of the world’s leading experts on the plants of Peru, as well as the effects of El Niño events on Neotropical plant populations.  He has published more than 100 scientific papers, and described dozens of new species, principally plants of Peru and Chile. Between 2005 and 2008 Dr. Dillon was Chair of the Department of Botany, overseeing a major upgrade of The Field Museum Herbarium and botanical labs and spearheading pioneering efforts in collections digitization.

Join us early at 6:00 p.m. for a social hour with refreshments.  We are extending this month’s social time to an hour, serving hearty appetizers and snacks to welcome our out-of-town guest speaker, Dr. Michael Dillon.  Refreshments will also be available after the meeting.
