Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m.-Field Trip: “Slot Canyon and beyond plant walk.”

This 2.5 mile round trip hike will be held from 10 am -12 noon; we’ll hike through the slot canyon to identify plants before the entrance and beyond the canyon. There are few plants, if any, inside the slot canyon.

Trail is moderately easy, requiring a few small rock scrambles.  You will need to be able to climb over a gate to access the property or roll under a barbed wire fence. You will have assistance!

Optional lunch at Blue Moon Bar and Grill in Radium Springs;

Trip Leader 1:  Ken Steigman
Trip leader 2:  tbd

The Slot Canyon is on North Valley Drive, approximately 20 miles or so north of Las Cruces, past Radium Springs. Participants can plug in “Slot Canyon North Valley Drive” into Google maps to find the trailhead.
There is no sign, but it is on the left side, or west side, of the road coming from Las Cruces; the trailhead is at a green gate, across the highway from the entrance to the former Broad Canyon Ranch. There will be cars parked there. Membership in NPSNM and annual signed release form required from all participants.
