Paleoethnobotanist and past President of our Albuquerque chapter, Pam McBride, will describe her professional field, how botanical materials are retrieved from archaeological sites, their identification, and their interpretation, followed by a discussion of at least four of the pioneering ethnobotanists whose research make interpretation of the past possible. This discussion will include two of the most colorful and controversial ethnobotanists of the late 19th century: Matilda Coxe Stevenson and Frank Hamilton Cushing.
