Dr. Loring earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University studying the systematics and ecology of soil insects. He came to New Mexico State University in 1984 to work on the Jornada Basin Long-Term Ecological Research project. After working in the NMSU Biology Department and at the Physical Sciences Laboratory, he joined the Agricultural Experiment Station System, part of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. He retired in 2021 as AES Associate Director, overseeing research efforts at off-campus agricultural science centers located across the state.
